Indy is a trauma-informed mindset, nutrition, and fitness coach based in Austin, Texas. She is passionate about helping people transform from the inside out. Indy's passion for health and wellness stems from her own personal journey of losing 120lbs. Through working with her clients, she realized that fitness and nutrition were less than half of the battle, and the real struggle was in the mind. She has armed herself with tools to make her clients’ transformation sustainable, which means helping them figure out their WHY? Indy brings her values of leading with kindness and compassion to each aspect of her work; in her 1:1 coaching sessions, her Facebook group where she coaches thousands of women around the world, and in her social platforms that she uses to encourage and inspire her followers. When she’s not working out or coaching, she is playing with her dog, Oliver, planning a spontaneous trip to a new country, or riding around Austin on her longboard.
What form of exercise do you teach?
I teach Strength Training.
What does exercise do for you - outside and inside?
Exercise makes me feel empowered both physically & mentally. It affirms to me that I am strong on days I feel weak & I am capable on days that I have doubt.
What's your favorite Reggae song? What does it mean to you?
There are SO many but honestly the first that comes to mind is “Love Is My Religion” By: Ziggy Marley - This song is so powerful to me because I was raised in a religious household and that religion translated to me, that all other religions were wrong. From a young age I noticed the flaws of this narrow minded way of thinking. Questioning why there was so much condemnation and judgment towards other humans, and who decides who’s “right” or “wrong” … I saw the pain, the fear, the wars, the divide this caused. I choose to live by the words “Do Good, & Be Good.” With that being said, Love Is My Religion.
What does nature mean to you? How does it inspire you?
This human experience can be so complicated, at times painful, confusing, and heavy. And just as the most catastrophic storms remind us, eventually the wind will change directions, and the sun will pierce through the clouds. With strength, purpose, and certainty, the only thing guaranteed in this life is that the moon will always shine, no matter how dark the night. This phenomenon of the physical world, and also to life in general. One of the most powerful forces in the universe. Unable to be controlled or manipulated. Nature gives life & takes it. Nature heals, and destroys. Nature inspires me to create, live, and let go.
How can exercise make us stronger human beings, better able to connect with others and embrace everyone's right to thrive?
You can not pour from an empty cup. When you show up for you, you are able to show up for others. When you make and keep commitments to yourself, you build self confidence and that translates onto the rest of your life. It inspires others to choose themselves. It creates strength and unity in us all.
Why is it important for us to connect with other human beings?
Brene Brown writes that we are hardwired for connection and companionship. Our need for belonging and acceptance is one of the reasons we choose to form groups where to belong we must conform. For me, connection is our birthright. We are here to love and be loved, to learn and to teach. Our well-being depends on our connections with others. The feeling of belonging, purpose, happiness, self-worth and confidence is all derived through connection.
What does the phrase "One World, One Love" mean to you?
To me “One World, One Love” means that at the end of the day, the end of this life, the only thing that truly matters is love, we are all living through similar human experiences, with similar purposes. Our differences of opinion are irrelevant and destructive in the grander scheme of it all. We are ONE in the same.
