“Those who know enough about the past know enough to hope.”
What form of exercise do you teach?
I teach yoga and meditation classes, which are a form of exercise for the mind and spirit.
What does exercise do for you - outside and inside?
Exercise strengthens my physical body, helps me alleviate stress and promotes a deep sense of wellbeing within.
What’s your favorite Reggae song? What does it mean to you?
My favorite Reggae song is No Woman No Cry. I had the distinct honor of hearing Bob Marley rehearse this song with the Wailers one night at his 56 Hope Road home and studio. To me this song offers a healing energy, and speaks of friendship, love, family, community, hope and possibility. As we move forward toward our goals, we are reminded to embrace the richness of our past and honor those who inspired and lifted us.
What does nature mean to you? How does it inspire you?
Nature is our very essence, and our sustenance. Water, air, sunshine, trees, flowers, rain all nourish our spirit in so many transformative ways. I am inspired every day by the very fact that the carbon dioxide we humans exhale is what trees ingest, and the oxygen trees release is what sustains human life. Nature could not be more profound in teaching us the connectivity of all things.
How can exercise make us stronger human beings, better able to connect with others and embrace everyone’s right to thrive?
Exercise empowers us to thrive in challenging circumstances and can open our hearts wider to embrace one another.
Why is it important for us to connect with other human beings?
Because, as my daughter once said to me in her sleep, “we must pull the stars out of each other.”
What does the phrase “One World, One Love” mean to you?
We are all one people united by love.
In a universe of exercise platforms what makes OneFirelight special to you?
